Miscellaneous Information

FIELD TRIPS AND VOLUNTEERING:

We encourage parents to volunteer and attend field trips throughout the year.  Field trips are scheduled to coordinate with the monthly units of study.  Prior to attending the field trip or volunteering in the classroom, parents will need to complete and provide all TCSD Preschool Volunteering Requirements to the Early Childhood Office:  show proof of a TB test, proof of MMR, DTap, and flu shot vaccination (or sign waiver), and be fingerprinted with TCSD).  Due to insurance purposes, siblings are not allowed on field trips.  If a school sponsored field trip occurs, the TCSD will provide field trip transportation.

FINGERPRINTING:

TCSD will offer fingerprinting opportunities throughout the school year (for dates/times/locations, please see the TCSD Parent Handbook).  You will be notified of these dates in advance so you can take advantage of the opportunity.  Parents will be responsible for paying for their fingerprinting fees; however, once fingerprinted, this clearance is valid Preschool-8th grade within TCSD.

MEALS/SNACKS:

Children in the centers will be provided with a nutritious meal or snack while they are in class.  The meals prepared are culturally and developmentally appropriate for the children being served.  All meals served meet the nutritional requirements specified by the Federal Child and Adult Care Food Program.    If at any time a parent would like to bring a snack for the class, they need to notify the teacher in advance and follow the district approved snack list.  NO HOMEMADE SNACKS WILL BE ALLOWED.   A menu for the month will be posted in all preschool classrooms as well as on our website.

SPECIAL DAYS:

A monthly calendar will be provided, and posted on our website, each month outlining important dates and activities.  The calendar will also tell you our theme for the month.

INSTRUCTION:

TCSD Preschool Program refrains from religious instruction or worship.

TOYS AT THE CENTER:

Our centers have many engaging and exciting toys for children to play with; therefore, we would appreciate it if your child does not bring any of their own toys from home.  Other children sometimes break them and this causes many unhappy situations.

FIRST 5 DENTAL PROGRAM:

The First 5 Dental Program is funded through First 5 of Tulare County.  They create and implement a process ensuring dental screening and fluoride varnish applications for students with parent approval.  The goal is to effectively integrate medical and oral health services for children 0-5 years of age through Altura Centers for Health.  The project team includes a registered dental hygienist (RDH).

TRANSPORTATION:

It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to provide safe transportation to and from school each day.

PARKING LOT:

The parking lot situation for our preschool programs can be challenging at times.  We ask that all parents proceed with great caution during drop off/pick up times.  Please give yourself plenty of time to park and walk your child safely to and from class.  When driving please exercise patience as we have many little ones darting around cards.  We kindly ask that you only park in designated areas and not to block others in.  Thank you for your cooperation.

END OF THE YEAR PROMOTION:

The end of preschool is an exciting time for both students and parents and makes for a wonderful time to celebrate.  TCSD Preschool Programs do not conduct preschool graduations.  We kindly ask that you refrain from purchasing and bringing in caps and gowns of any fashion.  Every preschool classroom will have an end of the year celebration in which their classroom teacher will provide you more information as the time gets closer.
