Attendance Policies/Procedures

ABSENCES:

Parents are responsible for notifying the program staff by Learning Genie Health Card completion if the child is to be absent.  The unexcused absence policy is:  a child having 7-10 consecutive absences without notification could result in the child being dropped from the program.  If the child has an extended absence for any reason, it is important that the parent keep the center notified of the child’s progress by continuing to complete the Health Card Daily and stay in contact with their child's teacher through Learning Genie messaging every two or three days.  If unexcused absences become excessive, the district will consult with the parent to create an attendance plan.

EXCUSED:

Excused absences are considered:  illness or quarantine of child, family emergency, court-ordered visitations, hospitalization, or a reason which is clearly in the “best interest of the child”.

  • Illness of child or parent (illness of a sibling is not considered an excused absence)
  • Hospitalization--a doctor’s note will be needed stating the child is released to come back to the center.
  • Absences for “family emergency” include death of an immediate family member, funeral of an immediate family member, illness of a sibling, personal environmental disaster (i.e. fire), catastrophic event (i.e. burglary, auto accident).
  • Court ordered visitation--copy of court order or agreement must be in file
  • “Best interest of the child” days include:  religious activities, family vacation, special time with parents/relatives, special activities, enrichment opportunities, cultural/religious observations, out of town, and undefined appointments that have been approved by the Director of Early Childhood.  Excused absences in the “best interest of the child” are limited to 10 days per program year, except for the child referred for protective services.

I understand that all other absences, not listed above, are considered “unexcused absences”.

ILL STUDENTS:

Ill students may not come to school.  If your child comes to school sick, we will call you to pick him/her up.  If you cannot be reached, we will call the next person on the emergency card to come.  Reasons for keeping your child home are as follows:

  • Temperature over 100.4
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Trauma determined to need medical attention
  • Communicable disease symptoms (i.e. chicken pox, measles,  or ringworm).  If your child has a communicable disease, he/she must have clearance from your doctor or the school nurse to return to class.

DROP OFF/PICK UP:

Teachers work diligently to provide meaningful activities for your children, so we encourage parents to do their best to drop their child off on time each day.  Many of our teachers have scheduled meetings and classes that they need to prepare for, so it is important to also pick them up on time.  If you are more than fifteen minutes late picking up your child, your child’s teacher will call other members on the emergency card to pick up the child.  If no one can be reached, the child will be taken to the school office to wait to be picked up.  If you are late more than one time per month to pick up your child, you will be contacted by the Director of Early Childhood to come up with a plan to ensure punctual pick up time.   If the problem continues to persist, your child may be dropped from the program.
