Health & Safety Policies

All children will have to meet the PM 286 California Immunization Requirements.  We exercise safety in everything we do, and we pride ourselves on providing a safe environment in which all children can learn.

CHILD ABUSE:

Our teachers and instructional aides are mandated reporters.  This means that we are required by law to report any suspected child abuse.

CLOTHING:

Sometimes preschoolers accidentally get paint, clay, or mud on their clothes.  Please send your children in comfortable play clothes that can easily be washed.  For safety purposes, flip flops are not allowed.  Tennis shoes or rubber-soled shoes are best for running and playing and will help in avoiding injury during play.  Please label all jackets, sweaters, and extra clothes.

EMERGENCY CARDS:

We can ONLY release your child to the persons listed on the Emergency Card that is completed at the beginning of the school year.  If someone else attempts to pick up your child, we will not release him/her to that individual.  Please make sure that phone numbers and addresses of all emergency contacts are up-to-date and accurate.  A parent may authorize another person, 18 years of age or older, to pick up their child by:

  • Noting the authorized person on the child’s emergency card,
  • Giving written and dated notice to the child’s teacher authorizing your child’s release to someone else
  • Any person being asked to pick up the child must be added to the emergency card and placed in the child’s file
  • Identification is required for new individuals picking up a student.

NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES:

It is extremely important that you keep the preschool center informed of any changes in address, phone number, change of guardianship, and persons authorized to sign in/sign out from the facility.  Should there be an emergency and we would need to get in contact with you, it is imperative that we have current, up-to-date information on your child’s emergency contact form.

STUDENT SIGN-IN & SIGN-OUT:

State law requires that you, the parent or guardian, must sign your child in when you arrive, and sign him/her out before leaving. TCSD Preschool Program uses the Learning Genie app for a touchless sign in & sign out procedure.  Prior to signing students in, a daily health card needs to be completed.  Only people on the emergency card will be able to sign out a child.

INJURIES:

If your child is injured at school, you will be notified.  If your child is seriously injured, it is TCSD policy for us to call an ambulance, and then notify you immediately.  For this reason, please contact us right away if your phone number or address change.

MEDICINE:

The preschool staff is not authorized to give medicine to children unless district protocols and paperwork authorize them to do so, as deemed necessary by the district nurse.  If medicine needs to be kept in the classroom, per medical orders, it is kept in a lockbox out of the reach of children.  All medication needs to be taken to the school nurse for approval, it cannot be given to the classroom teacher.

PLAYGROUND:

No children may be on the playground without staff supervision.  We kindly ask that you do not bring your child early to play on the playground or equipment or stay and play after your child’s class is finished.

CHILD FIND:

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in which school districts identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services.  Child Find provides free developmental screening and evaluation services.  Children identified with physical and/or developmental challenges receive intervention services through the school district preschool programs and/or specialized groups/services.  For additional information or to arrange an appointment, contact the TCSD Early Childhood Programs Office at (559) 685-6500.
