Parent Connections

PARENT EDUCATION:

Parent education is an important part of our program.  We encourage all parents to attend our regularly scheduled parent meetings (in-person & Zoom).  These meetings are scheduled throughout the year and are intended to foster interaction between parent and student.  These fun interactive meetings include a wide variety of developmental topics such as language development, gross and fine motor development, mathematical development, preparing your child for kindergarten, nutrition ideas, etc.  Learning kits will also be available for parents to check out to use at home with their students.

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERING & FIELD TRIPS:

The TCSD Preschool Program has an open door policy.  Parents are invited to visit their child’s classroom at any time; however, per SB 792, ALL adult workers must have an up-to-date TB test, show proof of MMR, DTap, and flu shot immunizations (or sign a waiver), and need to be fingerprinted with TCSD before they will be allowed to volunteer or attend field trips with their child.  Parent visitors will also be required to wear a visitor name tag.  This policy is for the protection of all our children.  For questions on paperwork requirements, please contact the Early Childhood Office at (559) 685-6500.

WHILE YOU ARE VOLUNTEERING IN THE CLASSROOM

  • Please arrive on time
  • The teacher will explain what he/she would like you to do (either verbally or in writing)
  • We encourage parents to feel comfortable as they interact with children.  Getting down to the child’s level and expanding on conversations is a helpful way to keep them engaged.

WAYS TO ASSIST THE TEACHER:

  • help put out the materials for projects/rotations
  • read a story to a child
  • work with students to construct things using blocks
  • interact with students with outside activities

CONFERENCES:

Parent conferences will take place twice each school year.  Informal parent conferences will occur on a regular basis.  If you would like to discuss your child, or any aspect of the program, please make contact with the classroom teacher and they will be happy to schedule a time to meet with you.

PARENT SURVEY:

At the initial parent conference, a parent survey will be distributed and collected from every preschool parent.  This survey assists district administration and preschool staff in creating action plans as a means of better meeting the needs of the families in our centers.  Data and action plans from these surveys are shared with district administration, preschool staff, and preschool advisory parent meeting members.

PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC):

The purpose of the PAC is to bring parents and staff together to accomplish goals that will enhance our preschool.  Our focus is to build relationships, increase parent involvement, increase communication, plan family activities for the year, stay up on the operations of the preschool, and share ideas/suggestions to make TCSD Preschool Programs successful.  Please join us and take the opportunity to get involved.

LEARNING GENIE APP:

Staying connected with our families is important to us.  All parents will receive a specific code for a communication app to download to be able to have frequent communications back and forth with their teacher and receive important updates from the district.
